Microsoft stock value surges on hopes for TikTok deal but analyst worries acquisition might overshadow cloud story

Shares of Microsoft Corp. MSFT, 4.53% has soared by 4% in morning trading Monday, 03/08/2020 after the company confirmed that it will continue talks about a potential acquisition of TikTok’s USA operations. President Donald Trump had threatened to ban the app from the USA based on national security concerns before reports showed late last week that Microsoft is interested in possibly buying TikTok’s USA operations from China’s ByteDance.


Microsoft shares have gained 22% within the past three months as the S&P 500 SPX, 0.78% has improved by 16%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, 0.84%, of which Microsoft is a component has also risen by 12% in three months.
